HSE issue alert after measles case on Dublin to Clonmel bus

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has alerted travellers who rode the bus from Dublin Airport to Co Tipperary over the weekend that they could have been exposed to the measles, reports RTE.

After learning that one of the passengers on the JJ Kavanagh bus had the very contagious illness, the organisation sent out a health advisory to everyone who used the bus on Saturday from Dublin Airport to Clonmel.

On Saturday at 4 p.m., the bus, number 717, departed from the airport.

“For any passenger on this bus journey who is a pregnant woman, immunocompromised, or under the age of 12-months-old please immediately contact your GP or hospital clinician for advice. This is because immediate treatment may be beneficial,” the HSE said in a statement, reports RTE.

“Signs and symptoms of measles for the next 2-3 weeks” are the warnings given to passengers.

Among them are:

  • Symptoms that resemble a cold, include a cough, runny nose, and sneezing.
    hot, hurting eyes.
  • A minimum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius.

Rash often starts on the head and neck before spreading to the rest of the body.

The recommendation is to “stay at home in a separate room, and seek healthcare advice” for anyone who exhibits symptoms.

The “best way to protect yourself and those around you against measles is with two MMR vaccinations,” according to the HSE.
