The HSE have called for the reintroduction of mandatory mask wearing in public places as hospitals are struggling across the country.
The plea comes as 23,125 new Covid-19 cases were reported over the past 24 hours with 1,425 people in hospital with the virus.
In a statement the HSE Chief Operations Officer Anne O’Connor said that the recent surge in Covid-19 cases is having impact on hospital care as anyone admitted with the virus has to be treated on a Covid-19 ward.
Ms O’Connor said the rise in admissions is having an impact on non Covid-19 related care as certain procedures have to be cancelled.
