A well known county councillor claims that the current tax system is completely unfair to county councillors because they pay PRSI but don’t seem to get any benefits.
The minister Kevin Humphreys believes that councillors take a major risk when don’t take other jobs because they are left without any benefits when they reach retirement age. Mr Humphrey’s says that the issue is hugely unpopular amongst his fellow councillors and he suggests that the problem should be looked at.
It is believed that all public office holders have had to pay PRSI on their income since 2010. However councillors don’t get a pension afterwards were as TD’s and sitting Senator’s do.
