A Europe-wide operation against child trafficking has led to the arrests of 388 people across 11 countries, as well as the rescue of 249 potential victims.
Europol stated that the co-ordinated operation took place in October and was focused on border crossings and transport hubs across the continent. The agency reported that across Europe children are often exploited by criminals for sex trafficking or to engage in begging, smuggling, and petty crime.
Of the 249 potential victims, 61 were confirmed to be minors while another 107 have yet to have their age confirmed. Led by Europol, the arrests and rescues took place in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and the Netherlands.
