Hundreds turn out to pay their respects as mother and newborn son who died in hospital fall are laid to rest

A woman and her newborn baby who tragically died in a freak accident at Cork University Maternity Hospital have been laid to rest today.

The woman Marie Downey and her baby son Darragh, were laid to rest in Ballyagran, Co Limerick this morning.

In a emotional tribute to the pair hundreds of people including family and friends turned out to pay their respects.

It is understood that little Darragh was laid to rest in his mother’s arms Castletown Cemetery.

Both mother and son tragically died earlier this week when it is believed that Marie suffered medical seizure whilst breastfeeding her baby.
