Hungarian national charged in connection with stabbing incident that took place in County Cork on Christmas Day

A Hungarian national has been charged in connection with an incident that took place in Banteer, County Cork on Christmas Day when a middle-aged woman sustained stab injuries and was left in a critical condition.

According to RTE, 56-year-old Laszlo Nemeth appeared in Midleton District Court to be charged. Detective Garda Padraig Reddington provided evidence of the man’s arrest, charge and caution.

He told the Court that Mr. Nemeth made no reply when he was charged under caution.  The man required a Hungarian translator in Court and he did not speak during the hearing.  In addition to assault charges, he also faces two charges of being in possession of offensive weapons capable of causing harm namely a fishing knife and a long-handled axe.

Mr. Nemeth was remanded in custody to appear before Mallow District Court on January 11th.
