Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, could pose a real problem for his re-election bid in 2024. His son has been accused of being a thug by Republicans and they vow to “out him” over all of his issues over the past number of years, including alleged hard drug use.

US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, has agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanour counts of wilful failure to pay income taxes and make a deal that would avoid conviction on gun possession charges, according to court records, reports RTE.

The news sparked accusations of favouritism for the Democratic president’s son by former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies, who have targeted both Bidens over the years.

Hunter Biden’s allegations of wrongdoing against Ukraine and China prompted David Weiss, the U.S.

Two misdemeanour tax charges were Hunter Biden’s first charges.

“It is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved. I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward,” his attorney, Christopher Clark, said in a statement, reports RTE.

Mr Weiss said the investigation was ongoing, which is a standard statement in such announcements.

According to sentencing expert Tess Lopez, Hunter Biden could be sentenced to 12-18 months on tax charges, of which he will spend about half in prison.

But given the amount of tax compensation, his status as a first-time criminal and his willingness to accept responsibility for his actions, it is unlikely he will be sentenced to prison, reports RTE.

“He’s not going to prison. He is facing prison time, but whether or not practically and realistically he goes is very different,” said Michael Weinstein, a former federal prosecutor who now heads the white-collar practice at law firm Cole Schotze, reports RTE.

Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two tax charges and enter into a deal to avoid being convicted of a firearms offence, court records show.

Here’s a look at each charge.

Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax, according to court documents.

Hunter Biden was charged with possession of a revolver for approximately 11 days in October 2018 while he was addicted and unlawfully using a controlled substance, reports RTE.

This allegation is a crime.

Biden was discharged from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 2014 after testing positive for cocaine, Reuters sources at the time reported.

Hunter Biden reaches a pre-trial settlement over firearms charges, prosecutors said in a letter to the court.

Pre-trial diversion is an alternative to prosecution that is sometimes used to avoid a defendant serving a prison sentence or conviction.

Such programs may include requiring individuals to seek treatment for substance abuse.

If Mr. Biden successfully meets the terms of his subversion scheme, the charges may be reduced or dismissed and prosecutors may seek a lenient sentence, reports RTE.
