Hurricane Dorian has claimed its first victim, after a 7-year-old boy drowned while attempting to flee from the storm with his family. The boy’s sister remains missing.
Dorian was upgraded to a Category 5 storm shortly before it made landfall in the Bahamas, wreaking havoc with winds of up to 220mph and gigantic waves measuring 20ft or higher.
The weather system is expected to cause widespread devastation across the islands, and elsewhere when it hits the southern US coast.
