Michael Flatley, the famed creator of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, has confirmed his intention to seek a nomination for Ireland’s presidential election, set to occur by November 2025. The announcement came during a High Court case regarding his Cork mansion, Castlehyde, where his legal team stated he plans to return to Ireland within two weeks to pursue the candidacy, according to Independent.

Flatley, an Irish citizen born in Chicago, has expressed concern that Irish people lack a true voice, emphasizing his desire to represent the everyday citizen. His campaign focuses on promoting Irish culture and addressing taxpayer frustrations, drawing on his global experience in cultural diplomacy. He has not been approached by political parties but has consulted with influential figures and a team of advisers.

To secure a nomination, Flatley needs support from 20 Oireachtas members or four local authorities. The election, expected by late October, will replace President Michael D. Higgins, who cannot run again after two terms. Other candidates include Fine Gael’s Mairead McGuinness and independent Catherine Connolly. Flatley’s bid adds a high-profile name to the race, with his international fame likely to draw significant attention.
