In denial? Government confirm water charges will be suspended until the end of the year

The Government have confirmed that the suspension of water charges will remain in place until at least the end of the year.

Although the charges have yet to be formally scrapped a Government spokesperson confirmed last night that there will not pursue to re-introduce the charges before 2018.

The news of the prolonged suspension comes just a mere few days after the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed that all those who paid the charges before their suspension will get a refund later this year.

Speaking about the refunds the Government spokesperson said that it would only be fair that they would be refunded given that everyone did not pay when the charges were currently active.

It is understood the future of the charges will be sorted later this year when recommendations by the all-party committee that reviewed the future of water funding, will be introduced before the Dail.
