In the region of 4,000 people have been forced to flee their homes as fire fighters are battling wildfires in Gran Canaria.
The mass evacuation comes as the fires hand speed in two different directions destroying 1,700 hectares of land.
Authorities on the island say 40 towns have been evacuated as firefighters try to contain the spreading fires.
It is believed that a total of 600 firefighters as well as nine helicopters are trying to douse the fires which began on Saturday.
The fires which could potentially spread further are thought to have become out of control given the recent hot humid weather combined with strong winds.
