In what can only be described as a despicable act, thugs burned down one of the Drogheda Fleadh’s most iconic displays.

A 20-foot-tall statue, affectionately known as ‘Frank’ was completely burned down shortly after 6am on Monday morning.

The statue, which took a considerable number of hours to design and produce, was burned to a cinder in the Old Abbey quite close to the mainstay of where the FleadhTV production was televised from.

Social media users have been posting that a number of youths caused destruction to other Fleadh memorabilia overnight and that several taxi drivers saw youths in and around the area of ‘Frank’ during the night and around 5am this morning.

Gardai say that they’re looking into the incident today after what was an otherwise great Fleadh week.
