Incoming: Ireland could be due for storm significantly stronger than Ophelia in coming weeks

Satellite images have shown a storm front moving towards Ireland that could prove significantly larger and more powerful than Storm Ophelia which shut down the country for a day last October, the Irish Mirror reports.

The declining pressure suggests that a severe storm is likely to form in the North Atlantic over the next two weeks and if the projections are correct it could impact Ireland as a Category 4 storm, where as Storm Ophelia was a category 3.

Meanwhile, weather in the short term is set to improve with warm, summer like conditions expected as the children return to school and temperatures possibly exceeding 20C for September’s first weekend, the Irish Sun reported.
