Increasing number of people are returning from Turkey with superbug infections following cosmetic surgery

Irish doctors have expressed concerns about a large number of patients who have returned from Turkey with infections and serious complications after undergoing cosmetic and medical procedures, reports Independent.

People who are considering traveling abroad for surgery are being cautioned that certain countries have a higher prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which can lead to “devastating” results.

Professor Deborah McNamara, vice-president of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, has stated that hospitals in Ireland are treating individuals with life-threatening complications after they have returned from overseas, and this issue is exacerbating waiting lists, reports Independent.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that four Irish individuals have died this year after undergoing weight loss and cosmetic surgeries in Turkey.
