Indiana Jones fans initiate backlash against ‘Indy 5’, after it emerges that Steven Spielberg will not be directing it

Hardcore Indiana Jones fans have initiated a backlash against the next installment in the long-running series, after it was confirmed that Steven Spielberg will not direct ‘Indy 5’.

It’s been almost four decades since the first Indiana Jones film debuted in cinemas, instantly becoming a classic of adventure films. Three more episodes followed, all directed by Steven Spielberg.

But it emerged yesterday that Spielberg will not sit in the director’s chair the next time around, instead taking the role of ‘hands-on producer.’ James Mangold, director of Cop Land, Logan, and The Wolverine has been named as likely replacement.

Fans worldwide are now claiming that an Indiana Jones movie not directed by Steven Spielberg does not fit the established canon, and should be scrapped. Not to mention that Harrison Ford, who’s due to star, is now in his 70s and well past his prime as an action hero.

The movie is scheduled to begin filming this summer.
