Local authorities in Indonesia have said that they expect to find no survivors, after an aircraft plunged into the sea shortly after taking off with 188 people on board.
The aircraft, owned by local airline Lion Air, had reportedly experienced difficulties in its previous journey. The flight was en route to the island of Pangkal Pinang when the accident happened.
Air safety in Indonesia has long been an issue. The country only had a “no-fly” ban for its airlines lifted by both the EU and the US in recent times.
