Industrial unrest looms within Ryanair, as the company may unilaterally withdraw pilots’ leave in a desperate attempt to maintain its flying schedule

There are signs of industrial unrest at the budget airline Ryanair, as pilots now fear that the company may proceed to withdraw already allocated leave, with or without pilot’s consent.

Ryanair finds itself embroiled in a deepening crisis over its mismanagement of pilots’ annual leave, which has led to the sudden cancellation of hundreds of flights. Such move has affected about 350,000 people intending to fly with the airline, and has cost Ryanair upwards of 25m in lost revenue so far.

Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary said yesterday that he was prepared to cancel pilots’ leave on his own accord, in an effort to alleviate the raft of cancellations.

If such threat comes to pass, the crisis at the budget airline may deepen even further.
