A transgender woman is suing the City of New York after they were detained in a men’s jail centre while awaiting transfer to another state on domestic abuse allegations, reports Daily Mail.
Although Ali Miles, also known as Dylan Miles, was born a biological male, she is currently getting hormone therapy, dressing like a woman, and is in the “process of transitioning into a woman,” reports Daily Mail.
Miles, a woman who identifies as Muslim, is requesting over $22,000,000 in compensation, arguing that she was subjected to discrimination on the basis of her gender identification.
She was later found guilty of charges including severe harassment, disorderly conduct, harassing, making threats or intimidations, and providing false information to a law enforcement body.
She was sentenced to 312 days in jail in October 2022 and put on three years of supervised probation, reports Daily Mail.
