The final poll conducted prior to the event indicated that Nikki Haley had surpassed Ron DeSantis for the coveted second position in the Iowa caucuses, although former US president Donald Trump still led by about thirty percent, reports RTE.

Three million people live in this Midwestern state, and tomorrow marks the official start of the US presidential election of 2024 as voters cast their ballots in an unorthodox “caucus” format to indicate their preference for Republican candidates.

The NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll, which is renowned for its historical accuracy and capacity to spark last-minute surges, showed that 48% of prospective Republican caucus attendees supported Trump, reports RTE.

Election observers have been alerted to any indications that Ms. Haley, a former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador, may make a surge in support following her steady ascent during the primary election season.

“Our grassroots supporters have put us in position to win, and now we have to show up to the Caucus for President Trump on Monday and get the job done,” Mr Trump wrote in a statement, reports RTE.
