An internal Garda investigation has been launched in order to determine what happened to over €12,000 in confiscated money that went missing at Kevin Street Garda station last month.
The investigation which is being conducted by a chief superintendent from another Garda station has been requested after a routine audit of the highly secure evidence room failed identify were the missing sum of money had disappeared to.
It is also believed that the evidence locker contained pieces of evidence for a number of court cases as well as cash which was seized by officers.
Although no official explanation has been given to determine what happened to the money GSOC say an internal investigation will take place until a reasonable explanation can be given.
