Internal investigation underway at University Hospital Limerick after an elderly patient leaves A&E Department unnoticed

An internal investigation is underway at University Hospital Limerick after an elderly woman seemingly left the hospital with a drip in her arm without being stopped by staff.

According to The Limerick Leader, the investigation comes after the 80 year old returned home to her family home via a taxi.

Although thankfully the woman involved was uninjured after leaving the hospital, questions have been raised as to how she was allowed to leave the hospital with an IV drip still in her arm.

The Limerick Leader say the elderly woman was brought to the hospital after she became unwell at a nursing home earlier that day.

However following a brief stay in the hospital’s A&E department, the woman decided leave the hospital and get a taxi home.

Although staff at the hospital did realise that woman was gone a short time later, she was found to have been with a family member who happened to be at the house.

The hospital have since issued an apology to the family and have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
