Investigation launched into death of young girl in Limerick hospital

An internal inquiry into the death of a sixteen-year-old girl who passed away in University Hospital Limerick (UHL) three weeks ago has been initiated by the UL Hospitals Group, reports Breaking News.

On the day the girl passed away, January 29, there were 113 patients at the hospital, all of them were on trolleys in the wards and hallways.

The girl is known to be from County Limerick.

This is the second internal investigation into a teenage girl’s death at UHL in a short period of time, reports Breaking News.

In December 2022, Aoife Johnston, 16, of Shannon, County Clare, passed away from meningitis after spending 12 hours waiting on a tram in UHL’s emergency department.

Following an investigation into Aoife’s passing, the HSE apologised to the Johnson family for “serious failings in the care” that Aoife had received.

The circumstances surrounding the second teen’s death and the medical attention she got on the day of her death have been investigated, reports Breaking News.
