Investigation underway after a number of British citizens die of Legionnaire’s Disease after a holiday in Bulgaria

A major health and safety investigation is underway in the UK after two British citizens have died of Legionnaires Disease, just two days after returning to the UK from Bulgaria.

It’s understood that 75-yr-old Brian Taylor and 43-yr-old John Cowan had returned to the UK after staying at the Hotel Kalofer resort near the Black Sea in Bulgaria on package holidays sold by Jet2.

The two men fell violently ill when they got back to the UK and died almost immediately.

Post-mortem analyses confirmed the cause of death as complications arising from Legionnaire’s Disease, a bacterial illness that causes pneumonia and other respiratory problems. The disease is treatable with antibiotics, but treatment must start quickly or the chances of survival diminish rapidly.

Jet2 has transferred tourists to other resorts in Bulgaria as a precaution.
