A female nurse officer was left needing hospital treatment after she was attacked by three male inmates at Cloverhill Prison.
The incident which occurred two weeks ago, has come to light after the General Secretary of the Prison Officers Association, John Clinton, called for all prison staff to be fitted with body cameras.
Speaking to RTÉ’s Today with Sean O’Rourke programme, Mr Clinton confirmed that the nurse involved required hospital treatment following the incident.
Mr Clinton told thd programme that the need for body cameras as it would deter inmates and criminals alike from carrying out such vicious attacks.
Meanwhile the Irish Prison Service gave confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
