This really does beggar belief. Whether you like or hate Higgins, it appears that the gardai and security at the Aras couldn’t care less about his welfare because a woman managed to saunter into his office and talk to him.
Gardai are reviewing security arrangements at Áras an Uachtaráin, after a woman was able to drive her car through the front gates and then make her way into the President’s office unchallenged.
It is understood that the intruder, a woman in her 50s, spoke briefly to Mr. Higgins before being escorted away. She was allowed to drive back out in her own vehicle and no charges are being brought forward.
Gardai and Defence Forces personnel maintain a constant presence at the facility, but security protocols are now being reviewed in the wake of the incident.
