A sacred statue of Jesus Christ was smashed to pieces overnight in St. Laurence O’Toole Church on Sheriff Street, Dublin. Parishioners arriving for morning Mass discovered the life-size figure of the Crucified Lord reduced to rubble outside the Church door, its head and limbs shattered.
One distraught parishioner said: “It’s like someone reached into the community and smashed it to pieces.”
Gardaí are examining CCTV to see what exactly happened. At the moment, the motive remains unclear, but the incident has left the tight-knit North Wall community reeling. Locals say they’d like a prayer vigil as the parish begins clearing the debris.
