Investigation underway after horse put to sleep after collapsing on street in Dublin

There was a harrowing scene in Dublin over the bank holiday weekend when a fallen horse had to be euthanized.

The heartbreaking incident took place in the Feirfield neighborhood on Monday night.

Animal welfare organization My Lovely Horse Rescue was called to the scene to provide assistance. The horse’s owner, a veterinarian and guards were also present.

Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the horse could not be saved and was euthanized.

The charity shared an image from the scene on Twitter as they confirmed the sad news.

A spokesperson said: “A very sad heartbreaking scene in Dublin right now, Monday 1st of May, 7.28pm. This poor horse was put to sleep by a vet, An Garda Siochana and owner present. We are deeply saddened,” reports The Mirror.

The emotional impact of the incident was felt by many as social media was flooded with messages of sympathy and condolences for the animal and those trying to save it.

One person said: “Terrible and so heartbreaking, the poor horse. RIP beautiful one, fly high,” reports The Mirror.

Another commented: “Passed by this earlier in the day when it first collapsed. Poor thing. A very heart breaking scene,” reports The Mirror.

A third wrote: “Truly heartbreaking to see that. The poor horse,” reports The Mirror.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí in the Bridewell responded to an incident in the Dublin 7 area on Monday afternoon, 1st May 2023. An Garda Síochána are investigating all the circumstances surrounding this incident,” reports The Mirror.
