A senior officer has been appointed to investigate how a powerful submachine gun fell from the boot of a Garda car onto a busy Dublin street.
The Irish Times reports that the Heckler and Koch MP7 fell from the vehicle onto the north quays in April, reports Breaking News.
It was spotted by a member of the public who flagged down a passing Garda vehicle, after which the bag containing the weapon and ammunition was safely recovered.
It was the second known occasion on which a submachine gun has fallen from the boot of a patrol car, reports Breaking News.
The same type of weapon was handed in after it was found in Dublin’s south inner city in 2018.
