Ireland book Rugby World Cup quarter final place with a bonus point victory over Samoa

Ireland have booked their place in the Rugby World Cup quarter finals with a bonus point victory over Samoa.

In a game were Ireland needed to claim maximum points, Joe Schmidt’s men came out well on top despite being down to 14 men after 30 minutes.

Ireland who won the match 47-5 showed their superiority despite having Bundee Aki sent off for a questionable dangerous high tackle on the half hour mark, had the much needed bonus point secured before half time after scoring four tries through Rory Best, Tadhg Furlong and Johnny Sexton.

Despite being down to 14, Ireland pressed home their advantage in the second half with Jordan Larmour, CJ Standar and Andrew Conway adding three more tries to give Ireland a comfortable victory.

Ireland will now be looking for Scotland to do them a favour against Japan on Sunday, although that crucial match is looking in doubt due to the impending Typhoon Hagibis.
