Ireland is safe? Man arrested in connection with robbery of jewellers with machete




A man in his 60s has been taken into custody by Gardaí in connection with the robbery of jewellers in Waterford, where the man threatened employees with a machete, reports The Mirror.

Around 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, a guy entered the building in the city’s Arundel Square. With a machete in hand, he then rode off on a bicycle, taking many stolen goods with him.

Later that evening, the bicycle and the machete were found by investigating gardaí.

At a Garda station in the eastern region, the man who was arrested today is being kept under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and may remain there for up to 24 hours, reports The Mirror.

“Gardaí in Waterford continue to investigate the robbery of a business premises that occurred in Arundel Square, Waterford on Wednesday, 10th January 2024,” said a Gardai spokesperson, reports The Mirror.

”One man (aged in his 60s) was arrested today, Tuesday 16th January 2024, and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region. Any pedestrians or road users who were in the vicinity of Arundel Square shopping district at the time of the incident and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí,” they added, reports The Mirror.
