Nearly €50 million was donated for charities around Ireland in 2024, making it the most giving nation in the world on GoFundMe for the sixth consecutive year, reports Breaking News.
The most giving counties were determined to be Galway, Limerick, Cork, Waterford, and Dublin.
Over 15,000 fundraising events were held in Ireland in 2024, and over 850,000 donations were received. Two donations were made per second on average worldwide, reports Breaking News.
According to GoFundMe, the West of Ireland in particular has shown “truly remarkable” generosity, with communities coming together to help both domestic and global causes.
Rebuilding a family home destroyed by fire, giving people in Gaza immediate relief, and paying for Irish children’s medical care abroad were some of the heartwarming tales.
GoFundMe chief executive Tim Cadogan said: “The Irish people’s incredible kindness and willingness to help others, even during challenging times, continues to inspire. Whether donating €5 or €500, every act of generosity creates a ripple effect of hope and change. This year’s inspiring fundraisers are a testament to the Irish spirit – resilient, compassionate, and unwavering in its support of those in need,” reports Breaking News.
