Ireland may need 12 weeks of restrictions to get virus levels back under control – Professor warns

A leading professor has warned that Ireland may need 12 weeks of restrictions in order to get Covid-19 levels back under control.

Speaking to RTE’s Drivetime programme, the Associate Professor and Head of the Department of International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland professor Sam McConkey said Ireland may need weeks of restrictions to get the rate of transmission under control.

McConkey went on to say that we then need to implement a satisfactory exit strategy in order to keep cases low.

He added that we need to maximise our ability to contact trace and implement a surge capacity plan.
