Ireland weather maps show supposed date that summer will start as Met Eireann gives June heatwave verdict

Long-range weather projections indicate that later this month, Ireland may experience temperatures as high as 23C. It occurs after many days of lower temperatures and erratic weather across the nation, reports The Mirror.

June’s weather is predicted to be a bit of a rollercoaster, alternating between dry and bright spells and frigid and dismal spells.

Though temperatures may be “possibly a bit warmer than normal” at times, Met Eireann has dashed dreams of a heatwave this month, stating that readings will generally be closer to normal.

Although five days in a row with temperatures above normal are commonly used to describe heatwaves, the national forecaster previously informed the Irish Mirror: “That is a working definition used by some other met offices, but the Met Eireann definition of a heatwave is five consecutive days of temperatures above 25C,” reports The Mirror.

The date’summer could start’ is currently shown on long-range weather maps, which are notoriously prone to change this far in advance. A warm spell is expected to arrive starting on Friday, June 14, with maximum temperatures approaching or reaching 20C on most days. On Sunday, June 23, the temperature is expected to peak, possibly reaching 23C.

Met Eireann appears to support this outlook, saying of the week of Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 23: “This week is signalled to be drier than the previous week with high pressure to the southwest building. Temperatures will likely return to more normal values for the time of year. Drier than average conditions are expected in the west and northwest with average amounts elsewhere. No hazards are indicated at present,” reports The Mirror.
