Several counties in the North and along the West coast have experienced snowfall overnight as temperatures continue to drop. Experts are keeping an eye on Sunday as a potential date for an impending storm, reports The Mirror.

On Wednesday morning, Met Éireann issued Status Yellow snow and ice warnings for Northern and Western counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo. These warnings will expire at 11 am on Thursday.

The national forecaster has also issued a nationwide Status Yellow low temperature/ice warning until midday Thursday, due to dangerous travelling conditions and potential animal welfare issues, reports The Mirror.

Many counties listed in the snow and ice warning have reported instances of significant snow, including Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Kerry, and Clare. Some areas have experienced temperatures as low as -5C as winter stubbornly refuses to leave quietly.

While temperatures are set to recover dramatically over the weekend, experts warn that there is still a possibility of a storm hitting our shores on Sunday.

For Saturday the experts said: “A mostly cloudy day with outbreaks of rain through the morning followed by showers later. Noticeably milder and windier than previous days with afternoon temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees, in fresh southerly winds,” reports The Mirror.
