An Irish citizen has sadly passed away after getting into difficulties while swimming in Spain today.

The fatality, believed to be a 69-year-old woman, may have suffered a heart attack while in the water in Benalmadena, Spain.

Local authorities confirmed that the deceased had an Irish passport, but no further details have been released.
