Irish Defence Forces team up with Gardai to prepare for any potential terrorist attack

According to reports this week the Gardai have enlisted the services of the Irish Defence Forces in order to prepare for any potential terrorist attack.

The news of the team up which was reported the Irish Sun earlier this week has come in the wake of the Manchester Arena attack on Monday evening.

The paper claims the Gardai have enlisted the army’s help in the past few months in order to run a series of anti-terror drills.

Speaking to The Irish Sun Defence Forces spokeswoman Lisa Chambers said: “There is a potential threat there for any country and we’re no different.

“There have been a number of incidents here in the past couple of months and it just goes to show you that we are no different to any other jurisdiction.

“The Gardai and the Defence Forces have key skills and expertise in both organisations that very much compliment each other.

She added: “I think we have the skills and the ability to do the planning that needs to be done to protect the State and we need to be doing that.”
