Irish government buys unused vaccines rejected by the MAJORITY of Romanian citizens who remain sceptical of covid-19 vaccines

Romania is one of Europe’s least vaccinated countries but the Irish government have just received 700,000 un-used vaccines from the Romanian health service, at a cost of course.

According to EUobserver, the Romanian population have even very resistant to take the Covid-19 vaccine. Romania officials announced that 25 percent (5,024,979) of the population has received at least one dose of vaccine, leaving a massive 75% of the Romanian population unvaxxed. (As of 2nd July)

The EUobserver reported that low vaccine interest in Romania “comes from a long-standing mistrust in authorities, vaccines scepticism, as well as officials’ poor approach in dealing with the virus”.

However, the Irish Times in July reported that the low uptake for Covid vaccines in Romania was due to a “largely rural country due to poor infrastructure, wariness of the state and the spread of conspiracy theories through communities where health education is often poor”. As of 2nd July, the Irish Times reported that “about 24% of Romania’s 19 million residents have been fully inoculated.”
