According to Tánaiste Micheál Martin, the Department of Foreign Affairs has been in communication with the family of an Irish-Israeli woman who is missing in Israel.

The incident happened after the Palestinian militant organisation Hamas launched attacks from Gaza over the border.

The last time anyone saw Kim Damti, 22, she was at a music festival in Re’im, in southern Israel.

They have talked with representatives from the Irish Embassy, according to her sister Emily.

Their mother Jennifer Damti said her daughter had called them shortly after in an interview with ABC News.

“Kim didn’t realise there was like seven or eight Toyota vans full of terrorists and they just shot everywhere. They just shot them, slaughtered them like ducks, and that’s the reason I’m here, ’cause I want the world to condemn this behaviour. I didn’t bring my children up to hate anybody. You can’t sleep. All I can think about is where she is, if she’s suffering, if she’s still alive. I just want her back, she said, reports RTE.

“So many other mothers here today. I’m not the only one. Everybody is missing somebody,” she added, reports RTE.

Leo Varadkar, the Taoiseach, stated that while the Irish Embassy on the ground was aware of it, the government did not have any concrete information.

“We don’t have any definite detail beyond that, but certainly we’re aware of it and willing to offer any consular assistance we can to any Irish citizens or any dual Irish citizens that are caught up in these terrible attacks,” he said, reports RTE.

Currently in Gaza, a “small number” of Irish citizens are in communication with the Department of Foreign Affairs, according to a spokesperson.

It advised all residents to stay away from all travel to southern Israel and advised everyone to “exercise extreme caution” in both Israel and the occupied Palestinian region.

This recommendation included East Jerusalem.
