The devastated partner of a man who fell from a sixth-floor balcony in Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol has paid tribute, saying he could “light up any room” he entered, reports The Mirror.

Robert Davidson died just hours before the anniversary of the death of his seven-week-old baby daughter on Tuesday, February 3. He is survived by two children and his fiancée Daniella Robb, reports The Mirror.

Daniella said their daughter, Hollie, died at seven weeks old from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Robert had returned to the hotel room where Daniella was asleep with her two children and kissed them goodnight, according to Glasgow Live. He told the children he loved them as they slept at the Sandos Griego resort, reports The Mirror.

Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sunday Mail reported. The family had been staying at the resort since February 1.

Daniella said: “A year ago on February 4, we lost our little girl Hollie who had died from SIDS. The memories of that date, of the paramedics rushing around our house, were just too raw so we decided to book a holiday, reports The Mirror.

“That day we had gone shopping in Malaga and when we returned to the hotel the kids had been playing at the night entertainment. Robert had been at the bar and speaking to other British holidaymakers.

“It was getting late so I told him I was taking the kids to bed first. He came into the room and gave both kids a kiss and told them he loved them. He then went out on the balcony for a cigarette.

“It was just hours before Hollie’s anniversary. I woke up when the kids screamed, ‘Mum, Robert has fallen off the balcony.’

“We all jumped up and ran out of the room into the hallway. Everything that happened next was a blur,” reports The Mirror.

Hotel staff, police and nurses offered Daniella an injection to try to calm her. She added that Robert, who also had two daughters aged nine and 13 from a previous relationship, had suffered a fall on Christmas Eve.

That earlier fall resulted in a fractured skull and a brain bleed, leaving him confused. She said she was unsure whether that confusion had played a role in his state of mind before his death, reports The Mirror.

She said: “Robert was really struggling. I knew he was but I didn’t know how badly. We had been to the doctors and I had asked him to go back. He didn’t like to talk about his feelings much but I’d tried to get him to open up, his close friends had as well.

“But he wanted to be the one that was there for me, he didn’t want to put any more on me. He had been devastated at losing Hollie, we all had. We still were,” reports The Mirror.

“He was due to start a new job in telecommunications on Monday with his friend. He hadn’t been able to work since Hollie’s death and I really think this job would have helped him.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help bring Robert’s body home and has already raised more than £10,000, reports The Mirror.

Daniella said: “We all loved him so much. He was hilarious, he could walk into a room and light it up. He was the most loving person. We are utterly heartbroken, we can’t even put into words.

“The children are the priority. We just need to get home now and begin the process of bringing Robert back. I just want him home,” reports The Mirror.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities,” reports The Mirror.
