A young mother has been given only four months to live after receiving a dreadful cancer diagnosis, reports The Mirror.

Eight months ago, Rachael Burns, 22, of West Belfast, began having severe headaches and eye pain. Last week, her doctor broke the unfathomable news to her.

Rachael and her family received terrible news when an urgent visit to the Royal Victoria Hospital showed a brain tumour with an uncommon and aggressive mutation. Initially, doctors attributed her symptoms to dry eyes, reports The Mirror.

Raeya is Rachael’s one-year-old daughter, and she and her partner Robert are frantically looking for alternative therapies overseas that might extend her life.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Rachael says: “Until last week I had in my head all of this hope that I would still maybe have a few years but at my appointment last week I had to get my mum to leave the room because she didn’t want to hear anything about the prognosis. The consultant then told me that anyone that has come in with the same thing that I have only has nine to 12 months to live, and I’ve shown symptoms for the last eight,” reports The Mirror.
