Teenage gang members are reportedly cutting the ears of a certain breed of dogs to make the animal appear more intimidating.

The shocking practice has been detected in the Blanchardstown, Coolock, and Ballyfermot areas of Dublin.

According to Gardai, thugs are spending as much as €5,000 on American bulldogs, then proceed to surgically alter the dog’s ear area so the animal looks more vicious. How these youngsters are able to access such a large amount of cash without any visible employment is also raising questions.

It is understood that owning one of these modified animals is a status symbol among gang members.
