Irish Water staff to oppose ‘unilateral’ bonus scrappage

A new chapter in the People vs Irish Water saga opens today, with firm resolutions declared by both staff and SIPTU representatives to oppose the announced scrappage of bonuses for the previous two years.

The Government announced the move to scrap bonuses for Irish Water staff ‘pending a review’, in a rather desperate attempt to appease public anger.

Such move has now backfired, and the Government is now back in the firing line.

A new package of measures is due to be discussed in the Dáil today, with bills now known to be €60 for a one-adult household and €160 for the rest. Both amounts include a €100 rebate, paid in installments by the Social Welfare Department.
