The most hated semi-state quango in town has been ordered to slash costs and reduce staff numbers.

According to sources, one of the top items in the new board’s agenda will be to reduce costs by €85m by the year 2020.

The Government has also reportedly authorized Irish Water to introduce a voluntary redundancy scheme to shed some of its 4500 workforce.

Yesterday, Irish Water’s managing director John Tierney broke radio silence and went on to say that the company has ‘a lot to do to win back public confidence.’
