Irishman is recovering in hospital after nearly drowning while proposing to his girlfriend in Italy

After almost drowning while proposing to his fiancée, an Irishman is currently recuperating at a hospital in Italy, reports The Mirror.

According to Italian reports, the 41-year-old lost his balance and fell into the sea when he was on one knee at a marina in the northeast of the nation. An hour and a half west of Venice, in the beach city of Trieste, the strange episode took place.

According to the Italian Coast Guard, the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on Sunday at Venice Wharf, which is a portion of the well-known Marina San Giusto, reports The Mirror.

According to reports, the Irish man made the decision to pop the question to his Irish partner. However, the man lost his balance and fell into the Gulf of Trieste waters before his partner could respond.

His agitated partner then sounded the alarm as the man struggled to escape the water, reports The Mirror.

The Irishman was pulled from the ocean by local firefighters who raced to the site and a Coast Guard cutter.

He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital when it was discovered that he was hypothermic. On Monday night, he was still undergoing treatment, although it is believed that his illness is not life-threatening, reports The Mirror.
