Irony, much? Varadkar says some senior figures in RTE had a culture of arrogance

According to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, senior RTÉ officials have a “culture of arrogance” and “poor governance” when it comes to decision-making, reports Breaking News.

In response to inquiries from Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, he stated that people “feel taken for fools” and that public confidence in RTÉ has “crumbled” as a result of many disclosures regarding the broadcaster’s finances and management.

A vote will be held on Sinn Féin’s Dáil resolution, which calls for the elimination of the TV licencing system and legal amnesty for people who have not paid their TV licence fees due to scandals that surfaced last year.

Sinn Féin, on the other hand, is putting out a direct Exchequer-funded approach.

Speaking in the Dáil during Leaders’ Questions, Ms McDonald said: “Not one of the top brass at RTÉ have been held to account,” she said, reports Breaking News.

“The Government must end the merry-go-round of dither, of delay, and contradiction now. Scrap the TV licence and replace it with Exchequer funding to ensure a better future for public service media,” she added, reports Breaking News.
