There are reports this afternoon than an Irish-born jihadist fighting for ISIS has died, after blowing himself up in a suicide attack in the besieged city of Mosul in Iraq.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is currently attempting to ascertain the veracity of these reports.
The martyr in question was known as Abu Usama Al-Irlandi. Originally from Dublin, he reportedly converted to Islam in the year 2000.
It is understood that the man was known to Gardai.
