Muslim extremists linked to the Islamic State have posted photo shopped images of themselves beheading footballers Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in on a football pitch.
Jihadists also posted pictures of a man holding what seems to be a denotator watching a football match inside a stadium as crowd’s cheer. The images have been posted as part of a wave of threats directed at the 2018 world cup in Russia.
The Islamic State has carried out terrorist attacks in Russia before including a suicide bombing on the St. Petersburg underground that killed 14 people in April 2017 and I.S affiliates in Egypt also targeted a Russian passenger plane with a bomb 31 October, killing all 224 passengers and crew on board in 2015.
Russian state security is taking all precautions to ensure the safety of the games and the hundreds of thousands of fans expected to travel to the country for the tournament.
