While most people are forced to endure isolation in dingy and common surroundings, some others opt for a more lavish penitence state.
Enter Maha Vajiralongkorn -mercifully shortened to ‘King Rama X’-, king of Thailand. The monarch has reportedly fled his coronavirus-ridden kingdom and taken up temporary residence at the luxury ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkrichen in Germany, for a few weeks of well-deserved isolation away from his poverty-stricken peasant subjects.
And in a somewhat unusual move, King Rama is said to have brought along 20 concubines to tend to all the various royal needs for the duration of his isolation ordeal.
Mr. Rama sir is well known for his regal self-indulgence and unusual sense of cronyism. He once bestowed his beloved poodle Fufu with the high-status ranking of air chief marshal in the Royal Thai Air Force, for instance. Fufu did not live up to its professional expectations though, choosing instead to take quick exit left off the world stage by passing away unexpectedly in 2015. Nevertheless, the demise of the mangy canine was celebrated with a no-expenses-spared four-day long funeral party that would eclipse even the most hardcore pub session in memory of Paddy the Farmer Boy here in Ireland.
