“It was a racist shooting” – Mixed recations to Irish Council for Civil Liberties calling for investigation into “system racism” among Gardai following George Nkencho shooting

There has been a very mixed reaction to calls for a major investigation to be undertaken into the shooting by Gardai of George Nkencho in Dublin earlier this month. Some people are saying that the shooting was racism-related, while others say that it was a criminal incident.

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties has joined calls for an investigation to possible “systemic racism” among the ranks of the Gardai following the shooting last month of Nigerian man George Nkencho.

Nkencho was shot while allegedly trying to star Gardai outside his home in an incident that was captured on camera following a vicious assault on a shop manager at Hartstown Eurospar.
In a statement Doireann Ansbro, ICCL’s head of legal and policy, said: “We’ve called on GSOC to interview the Nkencho family as soon as possible to restore confidence the investigation will be thorough.
“We’ve also called on them to take into account all of the gardai’s human rights obligations including the prohibition on discrimination. There is a need to ensure they investigate explicit and implicit potential bias”

The shooting of Nkencho last December 30th led to a day of violence of mayhem in Blanchardstown when protestors attempted to storm Blanchardstown Garda Station before going on a violent rampage to Blanchardstown and on to Hartstown Eurospar.

Numerous people and cars were attacked while terrified customers and staff were forced to barricade themselves inside the Eurospar where Nkencho allegedly carried out the animalistic assault the day beforehand.

Screams of “Rats” and “Die you white bastards” were heard from thugs who gathered outside and banged on the shutters while disturbing footage shows a mother and her young teenage son being savagely beaten outside.

Gardai maintained a hands off approach as the rampage went on and have refused to investigate any of the incidents.
