Italian film maker Bernardo Bertolucci has passed away, aged 77.
Bertolucci was perhaps best known for directing the controversial drama Last Tango in Paris (1972), starring Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider. He would go on to direct The Last Emperor, which won nine Oscars, including best picture and best director, back in 1987.
Bertolucci passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. He had spent the last 10 years confined to a wheelchair after unsuccessful surgery in 2003.
